Detectives Briscoe and Green investigate the murder of 15 year-old Christie Garrison who is found just outside her building with her head bashed in. The girl comes from a very wealthy family and the police first suspect Sammy Morris who worked for their friend and neighbor, Mark Vance, as his chauffeur. Morris is cleared and the police learn Christie had gone out to a club after her parents thought she'd gone to bed. She left the club with a boy - who turns out to be the neighbor's youngest son, Ethan Vance. His older brother Nick seems to have had sex with her prior to her death as did Ethan and they are both arrested for statutory rape. The solution to the murder lie elsewhere however. When two patrolman find a dead body in a park Detectives Briscoe and Curtis think the man, Navy Chief Robert Stroud, is the fifth victim of a mugger who also kills his victims. They break the case rapidly but when ballistics confirms that Stroud was shot with a different gun, they still have a murder to solve. They soon learn that the married Stroud was having an affair with a pilot, Lt. Kirstin Blair. The DA's office soon finds itself in a tussle over jurisdiction with the Navy but manages to charge Blair with murder. She's a very cool customer and claims that Stroud was shot accidentally. Detectives Cerreta and Logan investigate the murder of a young woman who is found floating in the river with her hands handcuffed behind her back. They had had a similar case of young man but the police weren't able to make any headway with that case. A police department forensic anthropologist is able to reconstruct their faces and they turn out to be brother and sister who were in the USA illegally working in the garment industry. When they learn that a city inspector was found dead in the river also handcuffed, the police are certain they are dealing with illegal immigrants working as virtual slaves. It leads them to sweat shop owners Ellis and Betty Drake and to Rudy Amendariz who has been supplying them with the slave labor. ADA Stone's case is weak however and getting a conviction will depend on getting one of the three to testify. Written by garykmcd
